Richard Pimentel
The Five Most Important Skills of Successful Employees with Disabilities
1:00 PM
When we compare persons with disabilities who are successful in life versus those who are not yet successful, some interesting and surprising results emerge. Dr. Richard Pimentel will explore the five most important skills found in successful persons with disabilities and contrast them to what we find in those who are not yet successful. He will explain how persons with disabilities can acquire these skills. How they can be imparted to persons with disabilities by teachers, counsellors, advocates and family. Whether the disability is physical, emotional, intellectual, learning or a combination, these skills are both teachable and effective. This workshop is ideal for persons with disabilities, family members, service providers and educators.
Cost: Free - no registration required

Paths to Citizenship, Contribution and Connection
11:00 AM
While “Employment” plays a leading role, Denise will explore and expand the definition of “livelihood” to include all roles and relationships that help us satisfy the core values at the heart of a robust life, including belonging and connection, contribution and meaning, and choice and self-determination. Affirming a world of interdependence, Denise will challenge us all to build “social capital” for people with disabilities and their families, for educators and service providers, and for each of us as active members and citizens of our local communities.
Cost: Free - no registration required
